CF Receives Grant from Ocala Royal Dames

The Ocala Royal Dames for Cancer Research awarded a cancer education/prevention grant to CF on Wednesday, May 30. The grant will allow CF to expand its annual ShopTalk cancer workshops to students on campus and provide education to community members about different types of cancer.

The Shop Talk program has been an integral and effective part of raising awareness and education for all women, specifically underserved women, about the importance of early detection, prevention, new research, treatment and other breast cancer-related topics. Over the past 17 years, the Shop Talk program has touched the lives of nearly 6,000 community residents. Shop Talk has been focused on Marion County’s 45+year-old, non-Hispanic black females and supported the targeted needs identified by the American Cancer Society for the greatest opportunity to make an impact on early detection and education. Through discussion with the Ocala Royal Dames, the 2017-2018 programming focused on overall health and wellness related to all types of cancers.
