Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Spotlight

Welcome to our inaugural Diversity, Equity and Inclusion spotlight. The DEI Task Force has been active since its inception in 2020, and information has been shared via the website, portal, our calendars and the President’s Update, as well as Insider. This year, we are working to raise awareness of our efforts and will be sharing monthly posts. Watch for our colorful graphic.

October is Information Literacy Awareness Month

What is information literacy?

According to the American Library Association, “Information literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to ‘recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.’”

Why is information literacy important?

You use these skills every day. For example, you use them when you look for information to successfully do your job, explore the best places to stay while on vacation, choose candidates to vote for in an election, and when planning to buy a home, car or other major purchase.

Our information literacy skills affect and bring awareness to how we engage with the digital world and how we find meaning in the information discovered. Information and digital literacy also inform us in using information ethically and evaluating information for credibility and authority.
