Visual and Performing Arts and the Communications Department will present “Of Ebony Embers: Vignettes of the Harlem Renaissance”  at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in the Dassance Fine Arts Center. Call the CF Box Office at ext. 5810 to reserve your seat. Tickets are free for CF students, faculty and staff with CF ID.

Performed by Core Ensembles, this is a chamber music theatre work for actor and trio — cello, piano and percussion. The performance celebrates the lives of the great African-American poets, Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen and Claude McKay as seen through the eyes of the great muralist and painter Aaron Douglas.

The text is by Akin Babatunde. The musical score includes works by jazz giants Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, Billy Strayhorn, Thelonius Monk and Charles Mingus as well as concert music by Jeffrey Mumford and George Walker.

Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for non-CF students, and free for CF students, faculty and staff with valid ID. Purchase at Tickets.cf.edu.
