The Debra Vazquez Memorial Poetry Series brings poet Billy Collins to the College of Central Florida Wednesday, Feb. 1.
Collins will read from his new collection, “The Rain in Portugal,” at 7 p.m. in the Dassance Fine Arts Center at the CF Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. A book signing will follow. Tickets are not required and entry is free.
Collins is the author of 12 collections of poetry and has been dubbed “America’s Favorite Poet” by the Wall Street Journal. He is a past Poet Laureate of the United States and Poet Laureate of New York State. He is a Distinguished Professor of English at Lehman College of the City University of New York and Senior Distinguished Fellow at the Winter Park Institute of Rollins College.
The Debra Vazquez Memorial Poetry Series honors CF English and creative writing professor Debra Vazquez who died as a result of domestic violence in 2004.
