You’re the Best!

Congratulations, Phi Theta Kappa and advisor Allan Danuff! The chapter won the Florida College System 2017 Chancellor’s Student Service Award. All PTK chapters in the state were invited to submit a short video highlighting their civic involvement in the community, and CF was named the winner.

Four students were named to the 2017 All-Florida Academic Team. Congratulations to Danielle Bryan, Madeline Ginn, Katlyn McNeal and Jennifer Rivera!

West Port High School Principal Ken McAteer received the Florida College System Student Government Association’s Bob Graham Distinguished Service Award. McAteer has positively impacted the lives of numerous CF students.

Dr. Ron Cooper’s new novel, tentatively entitled “A Thousand Natural Shocks,” is under contract with Goliad Press. Set in Marion County, this novel was written when Cooper was awarded a sabbatical in 2015. A publication date has not yet been set.

The Office of Student Life gave the following awards at the April 19 Student Activities Reception:

  • Campus Supporter of the Year: Cheryl Crosby and Conference Services — Patti Moring, Diana Worthman, Rhonda Jacola, Deanna Pittman, Bonnie Clark, Ariel Snyder, Brian Everard, BJ Price, Matthew Green, Leo Aponte, Tamela Williams, Jean Young (retired), Lisa Wilson, Barbara Lopez, Nancy Neuman, Rebecca  Lang, Dominic Spinelli, Karol Lamb, Shiho Sakakibara, Kiersten Pace and Seth Claffey.

Citrus Campus student Christina Gutierrez was recently honored as one of two Sunshine Success Stories at the Adults and Community Educators of Florida and Commission on Adult Basic Education National Conference. Gutierrez earned her GED at the age of 38 and transferred to CF. She is enrolled in the Paralegal Studies program, maintains a 3.5 GPA and is employed part-time in the TRIO program as a tutor.
