Debra Vazquez Memorial Poetry Series presents Cornelius Eady

Join us Tuesday, April 7, 7-8:30 p.m., in the Webber Center as the Debra Vazquez Memorial Poetry Series presents poetry by r and music with the Cornelius Eady Trio. Cornelius Eady is the author of eight volumes of poetry and the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the Wallace Stevens Award, the highest honor from the Academy of America Poets. A National Book Award finalist, he has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Lila Wallace–Reader’s Digest Fund. He serves as a professor of English and holds one of the Tennessee Chairs of Excellence at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Eady’s poetry, often praised for its simplicity and plainspokenness, centers on jazz and blues, family life, and societal problems stemming from issues of race and class.
