Appleton Museum Wins SEMC Technology Award

The Appleton Museum of Art is excited to announce its free mobile app has won a Southeastern Museum Conference 2020 Technology Competition Gold Honors Award in the Application category.

The conference organizers said, “We had a record-breaking number of applications this year, and the designation reflects your institution’s creative, accessible, and dynamic approach to digital learning in the museum field.”

A generous donation by the late Mary Brent Kraus allowed the museum to develop the free app which highlights some of the Appleton’s most well-known and beloved artwork. Since the app’s launch at the beginning of 2020, it has expanded to become a multi-generational interactive space where adults and children can enjoy not only the artwork on the tours but also art-making videos and online games, such as jigsaw and crossword puzzles that are based on the permanent collection.

“It is an honor to be able to continue Mrs. Kraus’ commitment to ensuring art is available and accessible to all,” said Museum Specialist Vanessa Scott, who developed and manages the app. “The museum is committed to addressing and delivering free multi-disciplinary and accessible learning opportunities to the communities it serves, and developing this app reinforces that.”

The free mobile app can be downloaded from either the iTunes App store or Google Play store.
