Congratulations to our Endowed Chairs and New Initiative Grant Recipients

The following CF employees were honored by the CF Foundation during Fall Convocation.

New Initiative Grants
These are short term projects that can be completed in one academic year. Grants can be used to fund a project or activity that promotes the college’s learning-centered values and vision.  The grant has a total value of $2,500 to fund the project or activity.  Congratulations to Marissa Brown, Katelyn James and Dr. Raphel Robinson.

Their project will add more boots on the ground with our recruitment and retention efforts by creating a peer to peer opportunity to increase the visibility of CF in our tricounty area high schools by implementing a high school ambassador program among our dual enrolled students.  Extending our ambassador program to the high schools should increase the desire to have CF as a first choice for higher education.  This is a great leadership opportunity for our dual enrolled students and will build on CF’s presence in the public school systems for conversations.

College-wide “Out-of-the-Box Ideas” grant.
This grant recognizes an outstanding CF employee for an “out of the box” innovative project that meets the college’s goals.

The grant has a total value of $3,500 to fund the project or activity.  Congratulations to Angela Martin and Frances-Ann Sciotto.

Their project is to create an escape room experience for nursing students of all levels. Escape rooms (a team works to find clues, solve puzzles, centered around a theme) can be used to encourage critical thinking, promote collaboration, and allow for application of previously learned information in a novel setting.  It’s a game.  Two topics have been identified for the first two escape room experiences (sepsis and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome), and additional experiences can be developed based on the faculty recommended learning needs of the students.  The escape room may also be adapted for use by other departments in Health Sciences or even college-wide.

Endowed Chair Awards
The recipient of the Lee F. and Attie G. Branan Memorial Endowed Chair went to Dr. Sandra Davis, Business and Technology.

Dr. Davis’ project is multifold.  It ranges from recruitment and retention initiatives for Associate in Science and Bachelor of Applied Science degrees for interested and currently enrolled business and tech students, to guest speakers in Accounting, Business and Technology presenting on cutting edge issues in the accounting, business, and technology industry to  innovative training and workshop opportunities for our students.

The recipient of the Frank M. Webber Memorial Endowed Chair went to Barbara King and Melissa Tolbert, Health Sciences.

Barbara and Melissa’s project is to incorporate a behavioral simulation experience into the ADN nursing curriculum.  Currently, there is need for Behavioral Health simulation for students to round out their classroom experience.  The focus will be on suicidal ideation and opioid addiction simulations.  The goal is  to practice skills for the appropriate therapeutic communication necessary to provide the best care for patients in these circumstances.  The chair will support the purchase of simulation software and documentation tools as well training to work with and compensate standardized patients (actors).
