Stearns Speaker Series: War in Paradise, World War II in Florida

From U-Boat sinkings right off Florida’s coast to sprawling military bases, hear how a war a world away (and up close and personal) changed a small corner of America to one of its most populous states. Join us in the Stearns Learning Resources Center on Monday, Sept. 22, at 12:30 p.m. for the 2025 Stearns Speaker Series presentation, “War in Paradise, World War II in Florida.” Presented by Eliot Kleinberg, creator of the original “Weird Florida” books, this discussion will focus on Florida’s unique history with World War II. Florida native Eliot Kleinberg, creator of the original “Weird Florida” books, spent nearly a half-century reporting on local news and writing about Florida and Florida history. He produced two history columns, wrote fourteen books, and co-wrote or contributed to several more all about Florida. Son of longtime journalist Howard Kleinberg, he lectures regularly on Florida topics.
