SUMMARY:The Ira Holmes International Film Series presents "Linda Linda Linda"
DESCRIPTION:Join us Tuesday\, Feb. 24\, for a showing of the Japanese film “Linda Linda Linda.” You can see it at either the Appleton Museum at 2 p.m. or at 7 p.m. on the Ocala Campus in the Ira Holmes Classroom\, Room 110 of Building 8. \nFor three friends\, their dream of playing the final high school concert together is dashed when their lead vocalist quits the band. Desperate\, they recruit the first person they see: a Korean exchange student whose comprehension of Japanese is limited at best. It’s a race against time as the group struggles to learn three songs in three days. The soundtrack fuses Japanese bangers with original music composed by James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins. \n“Linda Linda Linda” (R\, Japan\, 2005\, 1 hour\, 54 minutes) \nFor a full series list and more information on the Ira Holmes International Film Series\, contact Wendy Adams at 352-873-5800\, ext. 1546\, or visit www.CF.edu/filmseries. \nTopics and concepts presented at this event are for discussion purposes only and are not intended to espouse\, promote\, advance\, inculcate\, or compel individuals to believe the topics or concepts presented therein. Nor do they constitute endorsement of such topics or concepts by the College of Central Florida\, its board of trustees\, or any of their officers\, employees or agents.

SUMMARY:Free Screening of "The Monuments Men"
DESCRIPTION:Join us\, Sunday\, Feb. 15\, 1 p.m.\, in the auditorium of the Appleton Museum of Art for a free movie screening of “The Monuments Men.” This event is part of Take a Bite Out of the Appleton: The CF Appleton Teaching Project\, a 2025-20206 Endowed Chair winner. Admission is free in honor of Presidents Day. You can also enjoy family-friendly art activities in the Artspace throughout the day. \nAbout the film: Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history\, “The Monuments Men” is an action drama focusing on an unlikely World War II platoon\, tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from German thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines\, and with the German Army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell\, how could these guys – seven museum directors\, curators\, and art historians\, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men\, as they were called\, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture\, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements. \nTopics and concepts presented at this event are for discussion purposes only and are not intended to espouse\, promote\, advance\, inculcate\, or compel individuals to believe the topics or concepts presented therein. SUMMARY:A Dickens Christmas: The Urban Family's Holiday Exhibition at the Appleton Museum
DESCRIPTION:Twinkling lights\, themed trees\, and timeless holiday charm — “A Dickens Christmas: The Urban Family’s Holiday Exhibition” is back at the Appleton Museum of Art\, on view November 1–January 11. \nJoyce Urban’s love of Christmas began when she was a child in the city of Philadelphia. Every year she would go see the elaborate decorations at the department stores set up along the path she walked as she went to see Santa. This wonder of Christmas has stayed with her through the years. She began publicly displaying her collection in 1989 because she wanted to provide a place for children of all ages to come experience what she did as a child. Over the years\, her Christmas Tour has raised money for many local charities including Harvest International\, Interfaith\, Pilot Club\, Women’s Pregnancy Center and the Counseling Resource Center where she worked as a counselor. In 2012\, Joyce opened Urban Counseling where she continues her legacy of helping others. \nThe family of Dr. Paul and Joyce Urban is honored to share a portion of their Christmas collection with the Appleton each holiday season. Visitors can enjoy beautifully decorated themed trees\, the ever-popular Dickens Village miniature\, an extensive nutcracker collection\, handmade Santas from around the world\, and much more. With new arrangements and details each year\, the display offers something fresh for returning visitors to discover. \nAdorning the first and second-floor galleries are trees decorated by community groups and organizations. This year’s participants include Alta Printing\, Appleton Artspace\, Art Approach\, Arts in Health Ocala Metro\, Better Together\, Bridge to Hope\, CAMPUS USA Credit Union\, College Park Elementary\, Crazy Foods\, East Marion Elementary\, El Bell’s Flower Truck\, Hands Up Communications with LN Signs and Greater Marion County Association of the Deaf (GMCAD)\, Hiers-Baxley – Highland Memorial Park\, North Central Florida Media Group\, The LILAC Foundation and Urban Counseling. \nRegular admission fees apply to visit. Admission is free on the first Saturday of each month as part of the Free First Saturday program. Free First Saturdays are supported in part by CAMPUS USA Credit Union. \nThe Appleton Museum\, Artspace and store are open Tuesday-Saturday\, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday\, noon-5 p.m. A campus of the College of Central Florida\, the Appleton Museum of Art is located at 4333 E. SUMMARY:Ira Holmes International Film Series Starts Jan. 25
DESCRIPTION:The CF Ira Holmes International Film Series will kick off Jan. 25 with “Cléo from 5 to 7” and a reception honoring Professor Holmes. \nIn this 1962 film\, Agnès Varda eloquently captures Paris in the ’60s with this real-time portrait of a singer (Corinne Marchand) set adrift in the city as she awaits test results of a biopsy.
