DESCRIPTION:Join us Tuesday\, April 7\, 7-8:30 p.m.\, in the Webber Center as the Debra Vazquez Memorial Poetry Series presents poetry and music with the Cornelius Eady Trio. Cornelius Eady is the author of eight volumes of poetry and the recipient of many prestigious awards\, including the Wallace Stevens Award\, the highest honor from the Academy of America Poets. A National Book Award finalist\, he has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts\, the Guggenheim Foundation\, the Rockefeller Foundation\, and the Lila Wallace–Reader’s Digest Fund. He serves as a professor of English and holds one of the Tennessee Chairs of Excellence at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Eady’s poetry\, often praised for its simplicity and plainspokenness\, centers on jazz and blues\, family life\, and societal problems stemming from issues of race and class. \nThere will be a second discussion\, performance and book signing Wednesday\, April 8\, 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Ira Holmes Classroom in Building 8 on the Ocala Campus. \nTopics and concepts presented at this event are for discussion purposes only and are not intended to espouse\, promote\, advance\, inculcate\, or compel individuals to believe the topics or concepts presented therein.
