The 2016-2017 CF International Film Series begins Tuesday, Sept. 13, with “The Rocket.”

A 96-minute, 2013 Laos and Poland dramatic film, “The Rocket” will be shown Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. at the Appleton Museum of Art and at 7 p.m. in Building 8, Room 110, at the CF Ocala Campus.

A 10-year-old boy named Ahlo is blamed for a series of problems. After he and his family lose their home they must travel across old battle grounds to find a new one. As a last ditch effort, to prove he isn’t cursed, Ahlo attempts to build a giant explosive rocket. His plan is to enter this rocket in the most rewarding but dangerous competition of the year, the Rocket Festival. As the most bombed country in the world shoots back at the sky, Ahlo reaches to the heavens for forgiveness. This film is presented in Lao with English subtitles.

“The Rocket,” directed by Kim Mordaunt, was awarded the 2014 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award for Best Original Screenplay and 2013 Tribeca Film Festival Award for Best Actor in a Narrative Feature Film.
