Meet the last two Kamikaze survivors of WWII Oct. 25

The CF Veterans Club and American Legion Post 27-Ocala, will host a talk with the last two Kamikaze survivors of World War II, Jim Phillips and Conrad Dutton, Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. in the Klein Center.

The event is free for Veterans and JROTC members. Donations are requested from the general public. All donations will go to the CF Veterans Club to support their fund to help student veterans cope with the return to civilian and college life.

Phillips and Dutton will speak about the May 4, 1945 sinking of the USS Luce DD-522 and the attack on the USS Orca AVP 49 . Phillips, who served as a cook, manned a 20 mm machine gun on the fantail of the ship during the attack. Dutton was a radarman on a PBY (Catalina flying boat) Squadron attached to the USS Orca AVP49. Their stories are compelling and will give you a real sense of how they made history.
