PRIDE in Virtual Context

Dear CF Team,

Zoom is, no doubt, here to stay. We are all still adjusting and there are some important additional considerations to ensure that we are representing the college and ourselves appropriately. Whether we are meeting with co-workers or community members, or with students in online classes or advising sessions via Zoom and other digital platforms, please take great pride in your professionalism.

Think of our PRIDE standards (Professional, Responsive, Informative, Dependable and Engaged) in the new virtual context.

P – Prompt. If you arrive on time to a virtual meeting, you are late. Be prepared to start discussions at the scheduled meeting time. The StarBanner included this tip in an Etiquette for Zoom column.

R – Ready. Test audio and video prior to the meeting and have relevant materials available for reference.

I – In person. You can only be invested, engaged and truly present in the meeting if you are on camera. Body language and facial expressions are critical. Please turn on video, whether the meeting is one-on-one or you are part of a larger group – unless you have been asked to turn off your video by the host.

D – Dress. Though we don’t have a uniform dress code, the CF Employee Handbook says: “During business hours, employees are expected to present a clean and neat appearance and to dress according to the requirements of their positions.” Take the same pride in your appearance as you would on campus.

E – Environment. In your office and classroom, we provide tidy spaces for you to teach or meet with students and community members. Please be sure that the background in your remote work space is also professional. A simple background without distractions will ensure that all eyes are on you. Virtual backgrounds are available at this link.

If you have technical questions about Zoom meetings vs. webinars, screen sharing, managing participants, security, etc., please reach out to Smokie West, our college Zoom expert (wests@cf.edu). You can also review this quick checklist from the University of Pittsburg to learn more.

Thank you for setting an example by demonstrating your Patriot PRIDE in our virtual working environment.
