‘The Nature of Science’ April 8
April 8 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Join us Friday, April 8, from noon-2 p.m. for “The Nature of Science: Sandwiches, Mosaics and the Tragic Tale of Ignaz Semmelweis,” an educational presentation with Steve Schenk, associate professor of biological science at CF and YouTube educator. This interactive Zoom lesson on the nature of science and scientific methodology will begin with a quick primer on what it means for something to be scientific and how to view science as a process.
Professor S. will introduce the audience to two moments in scientific history: the formation and subsequent falsification of the “sandwich model” of cell membranes and the discovery of the importance of clinical handwashing in medicine.
Both stories give insight as to how scientific methodologies have shaped the research and public health response to the SARS-CoV2 pandemic.
