Dr. Sarah Satterfield, senior professor of Music, and Lori Witkowich, associate professor of Communications, have been recognized with the Association of Florida Colleges 2023 Exemplary Practice Award for activities related to the Mr. and Mrs. Seymour B. Robinson Endowed Chair.
Their joint project, “Plugging Back In: Helping Students use Music to Cope with Feelings of Social Isolation in the Wake of COVID-19 and Ease Test and Performance Anxiety” also earned them the Constellation Award at the 2023 CF Employee Service and Recognition Awards. The project began in summer 2021 and wrapped up in spring 2023. Through a series of 11 activities and the creation of a permanent Music Listening Space and Zen Garden in and around the Stearns Learning Resources Center, Plugging Back In turned the potentially crippling effects of the pandemic on the arts and mental well-being of our students into an opportunity for restoration and growth, greatly enriching the quality of the educational experience and transcending beyond the walls of the classroom.
