Men’s Basketball Clinches Spot in the FCSAA State Tournament

The College of Central Florida men’s basketball team officially punched its ticket to the 2018 FCSAA State Basketball Championships March 7-10 at CF Gymnasium. This will be the Patriots’ 14th consecutive state tournament appearance. They will face NJCCA No. 2 Florida Southwestern State on Wednesday, March 7, at 1 p.m. in the opening round.

CF hosted Santa Fe College in the Mid-Florida Conference championship game on Tuesday night at Patriot Gym. This was the fourth meeting between the two teams, with CF holding a 2-1 season-series lead after defeating the Saints 81-78 in Gainesville a week ago.

The Patriots took a 15-point lead into the half, shooting a lights out 70 percent from the field and 57 percent from behind the arc. The shots kept raining as the Patriot offense was 6-for-10 from the 3-point range in the second half and went on to defeat the Saints 105-82.

Seven Patriot players scored in double-figures, including: Xzavier Barmore (21 points), Carlos Dotson (15 points), Van Turner Jr. (15 points), Alexander Oguinn (14 points), Kevin Hunt Jr. (12 points), Rajan Barnes (12 points), and Quenton Jackson (11 points). Turner Jr. went 5-for-7 from behind the arc.

With the win, CF will face NJCAA No. 2 Florida SouthWestern State College on Wednesday, March 7 at 1 p.m. in the opening round of the FCSAA State Basketball Championships. Click here for a complete men’s tournament bracket.

STATE TOURNAMENT | CF is set to host the FCSAA Men’s and Women’s State Basketball Championships for the fifth consecutive year, March 7-10, at Patriot Gym. The men’s tournament will kick off the tournament on March 7 with games at 1, 3, 6, and 8 p.m. The women will follow with a day of quarterfinals on March 8.
