Dr. Anene Guest Scholar at University of Ibadan, Nigeria

Dr. John Anene, Social Sciences faculty, was a guest scholar at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria July 19 -22, 2017, and led a reflection on the historic nature and implications of the 2016 U.S. presidential election. The presentation was made to undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty members in the department of political science at the university. The event also provided an opportunity for students to talk about current topics and issues in American democracy and lessons learned regarding the global nature of electoral democracy. In particular, how the insights contribute to democratic development in Nigeria. In addition, Anene conducted a workshop for doctoral students in the department of political science on the role of democratic values and norms in global understanding. Furthermore, Anene was able to observe and learn first-hand from the students and faculty members of the University of Ibadan on the challenges of transitional democracy in Nigeria.
